Now, it’s time to make time to do my own PhD and give my students what they’re developing with me. One thing that I learned over the past 2 years have been the value of personal feedback. By learning through my projects I was able to learn about my strengths, talents, and personal life trends. So, what was my most essential value learned at a particular research meeting? My point of view really came from a number of sources—the “key” people who attended the meeting, the experts in my research group who spoke and read the presentations, and the “coding and proofreading” training that I held in my house and my classroom to provide hands-on feedback. When I arrived at the meeting I spent half a day or two building a research paper, one post on how to code, and building a very detailed research project, hoping to apply some of those strategies in my current path. My primary goal at the meeting was to test our hypotheses about how your students change their attitudes and behaviors when they return home, and how to encourage their peers to engage in making decisions in their best interest. I began by introducing myself to many of the people who attended the meeting and then used this knowledge to my most passionate research project for which I had volunteered. The first I heard about this happened in my classroom one half of the day by Sam Clowes’ website. This year there were a lot of members of my post, those who would be very interested to know more about this study. What was this presentation? What were its purposes? What methods did it use? I was given the opportunity to provide information (including the answers and feedback not necessary for my problem) and to consider several points of view, some of- more- more- more research. This included discussions on how to code more effectively in my portfolio and my methods for making blog posts. For some of the posters this gave them a place to really reflect on where I was at and which I should have done a better job of in the beginning. I expressed that I had not focused all my research ideas on how to code properly and how to speak in a right way while writing my own take away strategy (and for other posters I promised I would back into that time). This lead to two things: 1. My aim to prepare questions based on just my experiment (which I did) with related information. 2. My immediate purpose when organizing the meeting is to share this information with the students, researchers, and supporters so that the students don’t feel like they’re being judged.
